What we do

Vision of SWAY

In 2003 a group of churches in the Wembley area of North West London had the vision of working together to develop their youth work and so provide many more young people with opportunities for personal development including opportunities to learn about and celebrate the Christian faith. The aim is to achieve this by recruiting one or more, full or part time youth workers to work with the existing volunteer youth leaders in the 7 SWAY Churches so that together we can more effectively reach into the multi-cultural and disadvantaged communities in the Sudbury, Wembley and Alperton areas of North West London.

While seeking these resources and then recruiting suitable staff the directors agreed to run a programme of SWAY events using the existing voluntary leaders and workers in the member churches. The principal demand was seen as being for workshops for training in dance and music skills, facilities for the development of IT skills, sporting events and joint Christian celebration events where a significant number of young people could come together  to celebrate and share their faith.

The Charity's formal objects are:

  • to build up youth fellowships in churches within the Sudbury, Wembley and Alperton area;
  • to develop work with young people of all backgrounds from within the Sudbury, Wembley and Alperton area;
  •  to provide leisure activities and opportunities for personal growth including Christian spiritual growth, and to provide opportunities for the development of responsibility and to develop skills in a variety of fields;
  • to liaise with schools and other statutory bodies to further the above ends.

Following consultations with the young people in the SWAY churches the directors have adopted the following two pronged strategy for developing the work of SWAY.

To seek grants that would allow the employment of one or more youth workers.

To bring young people together to celebrate thier faith.
